Make a Joyful Noise

Luke and Ben received some grass-growing dudes for Easter.  They promptly planted their seeds.  Luke waited impatiently for his green frog guy to sprout hair, while Ben really didn’t know what was going on with his yellow duck planter.  Zach told Luke that singing to their plants would help them grow faster, and I agreed.

Luke sang “Baa Baa Black Sheep” to the green pot.  A few blades poked up relatively quickly.

Ben faithfully watered his grass but did not sing.  Luke continued to sing…only to his grass.  He would loving hold it, two inches from his face and whisper the song.

One week later, Greenie was ready for his first haircut, while Mr. Ducky was barely poking out.  Luke admonished Ben for not singing daily to his pot.  Ben tried to make amends by singing “If You’re Happy and You Know It”, which amounted to him yelling “Clap, Clap!” and furiously clapping his hands at the stunted blades of grass.

After two weeks, Ben’s grass is coming around, and is finally ready for a haircut tomorrow.  Luke’s has already had two haircuts.  Ben keeps clapping (and yelling) at his grass, while Luke has smugly stopped singing to his overgrown fro.

I have honestly read that singing to plants makes them grow better.  However, given our many variables and uncontrolled environment, I cannot say definitely why Ben’s grass is coming up so much slower than Luke’s.

We haven’t learned a single lesson, other than we should’ve planted chives instead of grass.
